INAUGURAL INTERNATIONAL EVENT INCLUDES OLYMPIAN WILL SIMPSON

October 7, 2008 – Sacramento, California – As entries closed for the inaugural Sacramento International Horse Show on October 1st, not only did results exceed expectations, but the first annual event will include Olympic Gold Medalist Will Simpson among its competitors.

Returning from a special invitation to visit the White House with other top Olympic athletes, Simpson explained, "I’m concentrating on qualifying for the World Cup in Vegas. Truly looking forward to this show I’m anxiously awaiting to compete at a new venue here on the West Coast."

Situated on over 120 acres, the Murieta Equestrian Center has undergone numerous enhancements including new footing in the two indoor, three outdoor and warm up arenas as well as stabling upgrades. By adding the Sacramento International Horse Show to the 40 plus events hosted annually, MEC is offering the only show jumping event in northern California with a World Cup qualifier.

The Sacramento International Horse Show is offering over $150,000 in prize money in just four days. Classes include the $25,000 Equistar LLC Welcome Grand Prix, the $10,000 Six/Seven Year Olds Championship Final, the 25,000 Junior/Amateur Grand Prix and the $75,000 Anderson Family Grand Prix, a World Cup qualifying event.

"More than a horse show, the inaugural year promises to be an event. Every evening features something for exhibitors and spectators to enjoy – from fun-to-ride and fun-to-watch Gambler’s Choice and Ride & Drive classes, plus entertainment, the VIP seating is certain to sell out as well," commented show manager Dale Harvey.

World Cup qualifying season is well underway, with three classes complete and three more to come before the end of this year. The 2009 FEI Show Jumping World Cup returns to Las Vegas next April, so every qualifying class counts for those vying for an invite to compete. "With three really nice indoor shows coming up – Vegas, Sacramento and LA - it’s a great schedule and a great time to be on the West Coast," said Simpson. "The world is coming to our stage, I couldn’t be more thrilled to be right here show jumping on the west coast. With McLain Ward coming west, I send a challenge to my fellow west coast riders – time to get ready, not to sit out & eat bon-bons – buy horses, train hard and be prepared so we don’t give our classes away. Show east coaster McLain what we’ve got. Let’s make him earn it."
