Mandy Porter Clinic
Mandy’s extraordinary qualities were recognized early on by both her trainers and peers. Growing up in Northern California, Mandy began her formal training with various professional horsemen such as Carol Dean Porter, Lowrey Jones and later Butch and Lu Thomas. She demonstrated pure talent and guts from the start – qualities that would later propel her into the International Grand Prix scene. During her junior years, Mandy competed in the Maclay Finals, won the NorCal Finals, placed 2nd in the CPHA Finals and rode on the 1984 bronze medal winning North American Young Riders Championship team.

On the ground as a sought after instructor, Mandy has guided numerous riders to major victories, including Megan Ellison, Morgan Taylor and Taylor Coe, participants of the North American Young Rider Championships. She continues to attend AA rated horse shows throughout the West Coast and Canada.

With each Grand Prix win and top placing, Mandy regularly adds accomplishments to her already impressive resume. Mandy’s dedication, consistency and knack for knowing her horses has put this California horsewoman on the map as one of the top show jumpers on the West Coast.

John French Clinic
Saturday, November 12th - 5:30pm

Although John French has called Northern California home for quite some time, he spent his childhood growing up on a farm outside Baltimore, Maryland where his mother was a riding instructor. Over the past 20 years, John has guided both horses and students alike to mutiple successes in the hunter, jumper and equitation rings.

Famous for his style in the saddle, winning attitude and dedication to the sport, John has taken home top honors from coast to coast on a number of different horses. His method to achieving a winning round is confidence. "Pick up the pace right away – don’t doubt yourself. To have a winning ride, you can’t think ‘am I going to find the distance’ you have to let that go. When you are tentative it interrupts the flow. Let the doubts go out of your mind – that’s when you ride the best. Take risks – believe in the ride," he said.

In August 2009, these characteristics along with a special mount, Rumba, owned by Mountain Home Stable, helped John clench a win at the inaugural $100,000 ASG Software Solutions/USHJA International Hunter Derby Finals at the Kentucky Horse Park.

While success in the hunter ring is evident, a handful of years ago John also proved he had what it took to win at the international Grand Prix level. Over a five-year period, John went from Rookie Grand Prix Rider of the Year to qualifying for the World Cup Finals, placing in Britain’s Hickstead Grand Prix and representing the US on Nations Cup Teams in Great Britain, Belgium, Spain and Sweden.

Will Simpson made his mark on the sport early in his career by setting an outdoor high-jump record of 7 feet, 914 inches on Jolly Good in 1985 in Cincinnati.

In 2002, he won the West Coast League with a score of 91 — third highest total in the league's history — out of a maximum 100. He won the Del Mar International Grand Prix four straight years, captured the 2006 CANA Cup, the 2007 Ariat Grand Prix and has represented the United States five times in World Cup Finals.
